Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)
In a groundbreaking move towards sustainability and transparency, Heidelberg Materials Devnya and Heidelberg Materials Vulkan have published their first ever set of 16 Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) after months of arduous efforts and commitment of the Commercial, Technical and Sustainable Development teams. This significant milestone emphasizes Heidelberg Materials Bulgaria’s commitment to environmental responsibility and provides detailed insights into the environmental impacts of the full range of products.
What are EPDs?
Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are standardized documents that provide quantifiable environmental data to compare products’ environmental performance. They are based on a life cycle assessment (LCA) and follow international standards such as ISO 14025. EPDs cover various environmental aspects, including energy use, raw material consumption, emissions, and waste generation.
The publication of these 16 EPDs marks a significant step for Heidelberg Materials Bulgaria. It reflects the company’s dedication to sustainability and transparency, allowing stakeholders to make informed decisions based on reliable environmental data. This initiative aligns with global trends towards greater environmental accountability, in support of the fundamental goal of reducing the carbon footprint and in promotion of sustainable construction practices.
“EPDs will become increasingly important as more companies and consumers prioritize sustainability. They provide a reliable way to compare the environmental impacts of different products, which can drive more informed purchasing decisions and encourage companies to improve their environmental performance. In the future, I expect to see EPDs being used more widely in public procurement and as a key component of corporate sustainability strategies,” confirmed Ivaila Vasileva, Sustainable Development Manager at Heidelberg Materials Bulgaria.
